ABOUT THE ACCRA INTERNATIONAL MARATHON (AIM)

Taking advantage of the numerous beaches along the Accra-Tema Beach Road, the Accra International Marathon (AIM) is a Beach-to-Beach running event that takes participants through the key Accra communities of Teshie, Nungua, Sakumono and Ghana’s major harbor city, Tema, and ends at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

With the harbor expansion works that have been ongoing for the last several years, AIMers will get great glimpses of Accra’s scenic ocean views.

GHANA TRAVEL VISAS

Ghana travel visas are required for all U.S. Citizens prior to leaving the United States. TBOG Travel will facilitate the Ghana visa application process and complete your VISA Application and provide personal delivery of your VISA application package along with your Passport to the Embassy.  When your VISA is ready, your VISA and Passport will be collected from the Embassy and Federal Expressed back to you.

Entry Requirements for Ghana

• All visitors to Ghana must be in possession of a valid passport or legal travel documents.
• All visitors entering Ghana must have valid entry visas or, in the case of Commonwealth nationals, entry permits, issued by a Ghana diplomatic mission or consulate abroad or any other visa issuing authority mandated by the Ghana Government to act on its behalf . (ECOWAS nationals and those of other countries with which the Government of Ghana has specific bilateral agreements, are exempted).
• All travelers above nine(9) months coming into or transiting through Ghana are required to have been vaccinated against Yellow Fever at least Ten(10) days from the proposed date of travel and where already vaccinated, provide evidence(certificate) indicating the duration of a vaccination status of not more than Ten(10) years before entering Ghana.

Travelers are strongly advised to ensure that they have all the necessary documents before arriving in Ghana

Conditions for the Issue of Visa

• Visas may be granted to personnel of international organizations and visitors to Ghana for tourism, study, business or transit.
• The visa may be granted for single or multiple entry.
• Visas are valid for a period of three months and must be utilized within three months of the date of issue. Visas valid for up to one year may be granted for specific purposes.
• Visitors traveling on Business are required to furnish evidence of the fact, such as a letter from their firm, while those traveling at the invitation of Ghanaian nationals or residence or Ghanaian institutions should furnish a letter of invitation from their hosts.
• Visitors may be required to provide a return or a through ticket to a country which they have the right of admission or may be required to show evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of their stay in the country. Prospective employees may undertake employment within the authorised immigrant quota. Emergency visas may be issued at entry points to travelers who arrive from a country where there is no Ghanaian diplomatic or consular representation, but such applications must be authorised by the Director of the Immigration Service through their sponsors before they arrive Ghana.
• Applications for further extensions to visitors' permit must be made to the Director of the Ghana Immigration Service for consideration. Tourists may be allowed a period of stay of three months if the Ghana Immigration Service is satisfied that such tourists have sufficient means of financial support.
• Persons who enter the country as visitors are not permitted to take up employment even if there happens to be a vacancy on the Immigrant Quota of a prospective employer.
• Professionals (doctors, lawyers, nurses, etc), are required to provide particulars of their qualifications in order that the eligibility of their registration may be determined.
• Applicants on a VISIT to Ghana must provide a letter of invitation from their host in Ghana.

• Copy of U.S. Permanent Residence Card, Student ID Card or a valid U.S. Work Visa.
• In addition to original passport, all applicants are required to attach a photocopy of the bio-data page of their passports to completed forms.

Photographs

Must be a recent colour photo taken within the last six months and printed in colour.
Background must be white or off-white in colour.
Must be facing forwards and looking straight at the camera.
Must have a plain expression and your mouth closed.
Must have your eyes open and visible.
Must not have hair in front of your eyes.
Must not have a head covering (unless it's for religious or medical reasons)
Must not have anything covering your face.

Prohibited Immigrants

The under-mentioned categories are Prohibited Immigrants:

• A person of unsound mind.
• A person declared by medical personnel as medically unsound.
• A person considered to be a security risk.
• A person against whom there is a deportation order in force.
• A person who has been sentenced in a foreign country for extradition under the Extradition Act 1960.

Inoculations
Yellow fever vaccination requirement for travelers across the frontiers of Ghana:

Yellow fever is an acute viral infection transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquitoes. It is endemic and epidemic in several countries in Africa, South America and Caribbean Islands. Case fatality rate is high in classic yellow fever epidemics. There is no curative medical treatment but however highly preventable by vaccination.

In accordance with the International Health Regulations IHR2005 which involves the below:

• Article 36 (Certification of vaccination or other prophylaxis)
• Annex 6 (Vaccination, prophylaxis and related certificates)
• Annex 7 (Requirements concerning vaccination or prophylaxis for specific diseases)

All travelers above nine (9) months old coming into Ghana are required to have been vaccinated against Yellow fever at least Ten days before the proposed date of travel and where already vaccinated the duration of the vaccination status should not be more than Ten years before entering Ghana.

Ghana is one of the countries at the risk of Yellow Fever transmission, hence the need for all travelers (including those coming from countries with no risk to yellow fever) to Ghana to have a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate or records indicating their protection from yellow fever.

As a result, Health officials at all ports of entry carry out vigorous checks on travel documents with respect to Yellow fever vaccination certificates in accordance with Article 36 and Annex 6 as depicted above.

Visas 

Obtaining a visa is required for foreigners' entry and stay on Togolese territory, subject to restrictions linked to bilateral and multilateral agreements, special exemptions, and exemptions participating in the principle of reciprocity.  

The Togolese visa is necessary for foreigners wishing to enter Togolese territory. It allows a foreigner to stay in Togo for a fixed period, usually from a few days to several months, depending on the reason for their trip.  

There are different types of Togolese visas, including tourist, business, study, and work visas. To obtain a Togolese visa, foreigners must complete a form, provide proof of identity and travel, and sometimes submit to an interview.  

The conditions for obtaining a Togolese visa vary depending on the type of visa and the length of stay. For example, for a study visa, must prove prove of admission to a school or university in Togo, while for a work visa, they must have an employment contract with a Togolese company.  

It is important to note that visas are subject to fees and that the conditions for obtaining them may vary depending on the evolution of Togo's immigration policies. It is therefore advisable to find out about the current requirements for obtaining a Togolese visa before starting the application process.

GHANA
The currency of Ghana is the cedi (pronounced "seedy"). The word cedi derives from the Akan word for the cowrie shell, which was widely used for currency long ago. The cedi is prefixed GHS, or by the ₵ symbol.  Cedis can only be obtained in Ghana. They cannot be converted anywhere except in Ghana and neighboring countries.

Ghana is basically a cash society.   ATMs are sprouting everywhere in the cities, and work with international networks.  When exchanging cash, larger denomination bills (50 and over) fetch a better exchange rate.  Credit cards, Visa, Mastercard and at the hotels, American Express can be used at upscale locations and a couple of the larger coastal cities, but are mostly useless outside these locations. They are more likely to work in an ATM machine.

For both Countries, it is important to break large notes into smaller denominations for shopping in the markets and visiting villages. You're better able to bargain with market vendors with small bills and they're also handy to have for public transportation.

Be sure to notify your debit or credit card issuer of your travel dates and that you may be using the card outside the country of issue. Otherwise attempts to use your card may be denied.

Currency Notes:

• Benin & Togo: Tips can be given in West African CFA francs (XOF), the local currency for both countries.
• Ghana: Tips should be given in Ghanaian Cedi (GHS).
• U.S. dollars are accepted for tipping but are not widely used for general purchases in these countries. Therefore, it is best to carry local currency (CFA francs for Benin and Togo, Cedi for Ghana) for most transactions.

A visit to the small local village of Simiw to spend some time with the villagers and bless them with donations is a great way to end the travel experience.

School supplies
General school supplies are always needed – they include pencils and pencil sharpeners, rulers, erasers, solar calculators, and chalk. Other popular supplies include English–Swahili dictionaries, world maps, and even age-appropriate storybooks in English.

First aid and healthBandages/plasters, antibiotic ointment, toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste, dental floss, soap, hand sanitizer, and feminine care products (like sanitary napkins) will be used and appreciated.

Clothing
New or gently used children’s and adult clothing is always well received.  Undergarments are always needed, and especially bras.

In October, Benin, Togo, and Ghana experience warm and humid conditions, with varying levels of rainfall depending on the region.

In Ghana, temperatures typically range from 24°C (76°F) at night to 29°C (84°F) during the day. Coastal cities like Accra are cooler due to ocean breezes, but the weather remains humid with occasional rainfall. Inland areas like Kumasi and Tamale are warmer and drier, especially in the northern regions.

In Benin, the weather is similar, with temperatures around 29°C (84°F) during the day and cooler evenings at 24°C (75°F). The coastal areas, such as Cotonou, experience higher humidity and more rainfall, while the northern parts, like Parakou, tend to be drier and hotter.

Togo also experiences warm temperatures ranging from 24°C (75°F) at night to 30°C (86°F) during the day. The coastal areas, like Lomé, have moderate rainfall and high humidity, while the northern regions are hotter and drier, with temperatures reaching up to 32°C (90°F).

While all three countries share similar conditions, expect a mix of sunny, humid days and occasional rainfall, particularly along the coast. Be sure to prepare for the warm climate by wearing light, breathable clothing and carrying an umbrella or light rain jacket in case of rain.

BENIN - French is the country's official language, while Fon, Yom and Yoruba have the status of national languages. The census indicates that Fon is the most widely spoken as a first language (20% of the population), followed by Baatonum (9%) and Borgu Fulfulde (8%).

Fon, Gun are most prevalent in the south of the country, where urban populations are concentrated. At least six major languages are spoken in the north, including Baatonum, Biali, Dendi, Fulfulde and Yom.

Togo - There are two national languages designated in Togo's constitution: Éwé and Kabyè, which belong to the large Niger-Congo language family. Paradoxically, however, it is another language, Mina, also called Gen, that's been proven to be the language most widely spoken in the country.

There are more than 50 languages spoken in Togo, a country with a population of more than 9 million. In 1975, two languages, Éwé, which is spoken in the south, and Kabyè, spoken in the north, were adopted as Togo's national languages. Due to its colonial history, French is also designated as an official language in Togo's constitution.

GHANA - The official language of Ghana is English. There are movements to make several local languages official as well. The Twi dialect of Akan is the language most commonly used on a daily basis to communicate between ethnic groups. Most Ghanaians are at least bilingual.  English (official), African languages (including Akan, Moshi-Dagomba, Ewe, and Ga)

Traditional values still prevail for many locals in Ghana & Benin, and showing excess flesh is not appreciated.

• Opt for casual lightweight clothing on the whole – leave your designer labels and jewellery at home.
• Shorts are acceptable for both men and women, but we suggest that you keep them longer so as not to show your upper thighs.
• Wear plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses and a sunhat, and remember your insect repellent.  If you want to avoid the toxic chemicals in insect repellents, we highly recommend using Lemongrass Whipped Shea Butter by Mine Botanicals. 
• If you choose to bring a jacket, a lightweight option would be most suitable.

Shoes to pack for:

• Comfortable walking shoes are a must – we love XERO shoes, as they are incredibly light and comfortable.
• Ladies, leave your high heels at home and bring a pair of dressy flat sandals.

Clothing tips for women 

• Ghanaian & Beninese women wear both traditional and Western clothes, and there are no restrictions on what can be worn.
• Just make sure your t-shirts or tops are long enough to cover your stomach.
• A skirt or loose-fitting trousers are good in the heat and will protect you from the sun.
• We recommend packing one or two smart casual outfit for nightlife activities – try a wrap or scarf which can add ‘polish' to anything.
• Remember some well-chosen costume jewellery can dress up any outfit too.

Clothing tips for men

• Lightweight shirts, shorts, polos and swimwear is recommended.  
• Linen pants are a great go to for that smart casual outfit
• Refrain from bringing your white sneakers as it is very dry dirty/dusty

Almost everywhere in West Africa you have to be very careful with taking pictures of the local people. It is not appreciated at all when you take a spontaneous picture of somebody. Taking pictures of children is normally not a problem at all. They normally love to be in front of the camera, especially when you can show them the picture with a digital camera.

If you want to photograph an adult though, you should at least ask it before you do so, and even then you should be prepared on receiving "No" as an answer or being asked for money for a picture. Permission should always be sought before photographing military installations, government buildings or airports.

CANCELLATION POLICY

TRAVEL EXPERIENCES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE
Cancellations must be submitted in writing via email.  

Cancellation Deadlines and Fees:

• Cancellations made more than 60 days before departure may be eligible for a travel credit, provided the traveler is in good standing and all cancellation terms are met.
• Cancellations made within 60 days of departure are non-refundable and do not qualify for travel credit.  

The following fees are non-refundable and will be retained in the event of cancellation: Cancellation fees include—but are not limited to—deposits, booking fees, donations, credit card processing fees, late fees, reinstatement fees, and any other specified charges. Additional non-refundable fees may also apply from third-party service providers (e.g., hotels, airlines, and transportation vendors), which may result in the forfeiture of up to 100% of the booking cost.

Automatic Cancellations for Non-Payment: If an account is 91 days past due, the reservation will be automatically canceled due to non-payment. No refunds will be issued.  If TBOG Travel incurs additional cancellation-related charges, you agree to indemnify us for those costs.

If TBOG Travel Cancels Your Trip - Should TBOG Travel cancel your trip for any reason unrelated to force majeure (e.g., natural disasters, global health crises), you will receive a travel credit equal to the full amount paid, with no cancellation fees deducted.  

Travel Credit Policy
Travel Credits may be used exclusively for designated TBOG Travel “Tour the World” travel experiences.

Travel Credit Validity (Updated April 1, 2025):

If the cost of your new experience exceeds your travel credit, you will be responsible for the remaining balance. If the new trip costs less than your credit, the unused portion will be retained as future credit.

Credits must be applied to a new booking by the expiration date, not merely for travel that occurs by then.

Please note:  

• Travel credits have no cash value and cannot be redeemed for a refund.
• Travel credits may be transferred once to another traveler, subject to written approval and a $200 transfer fee.
• Initiating a chargeback or payment dispute will result in the forfeiture of any travel credits and may prohibit you from booking future travel experiences with TBOG Travel.
• TBOG Travel reserves the right to challenge all chargebacks and recover associated legal or administrative costs.
• Exceptions to this policy will not be made for medical, personal, or professional reasons. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your investment.

• TBOG Travel reserves the right to limit or deny changes to your reservation, subject to availability.
• Changes to travel dates, party size, or destination may affect your pricing.

By booking with The Black Onyx Group, you acknowledge and accept the following terms and conditions: 

Agent  
- The Black Onyx Group, LLC (or any affiliated entities) acts solely as a travel agent. We sell travel-related products from various transport and accommodation service providers, including airlines, coaches, rail and cruise line operators, and hotels. 
- The Black Onyx Group's obligations to you include booking travel on your behalf and arranging relevant contracts between you and the travel service providers. 
- We are not responsible for these services and do not have the authority to make any warranties or representations regarding their quality. A request cannot be guaranteed. 
- All bookings are subject to the terms and conditions and limitations of liability these service providers impose. 
- You understand that your legal recourse lies against the specific provider, not The Black Onyx Group LLC.

Liability
- We constantly strive to ensure your arrangements are satisfactory. However, we cannot accept any liability of any kind, whether in contract, tort, or otherwise, for the actions, omissions, or defaults, whether negligent or not, of these service providers over whom we have no direct or indirect control.
- In situations where liability cannot be excluded, such liability is limited to the value of the purchased travel arrangements. We are not liable for any consequential losses or damage.
- We do not accept any liability in contract, tort, or otherwise for any injury, damage, loss, delay, additional expense, or inconvenience caused directly or indirectly by force majeure or any other event beyond our control or not preventable by reasonable diligence on our part.
- We cannot control and will not be responsible for bodily injury, property damage, or other loss caused by factors beyond our control, including but not limited to flight delays, airline turbulence, transportation accidents, war, terrorism, weather, quarantine, illness, government restrictions, regulations or actions, mechanical failures, acts of God, fires, earthquakes, floods, climate anomalies, civil unrest, strikes, riots, theft, disease, pandemics, epidemics, accidents, or failures related to public internet, telecommunications lines or facilities, or third-party technology systems, other unforeseen circumstances, or any other causes beyond our control, including your physical, medical, or mental disabilities, failure to obtain valid travel documents, or failure to follow travel instructions. Under no circumstances shall The Black Onyx Group, LLC, be liable for any special, incidental, or consequential damage arising from the above.

Deposits
- A deposit will be required at the time of booking.  All deposits are non-refundable for changes of mind or cancellations.

Passport
- All individuals leaving the United States must possess a valid passport. You are responsible for ensuring that you have valid travel documents, including, but not limited to, passports and visas that comply with the requirements of immigration and other government authorities at every destination. 
- Any fines, penalties, payments, or costs incurred due to documents that do not meet those authorities' requirements will be your sole responsibility.

Non-Transferable
- Documents issued are non-transferable. These documents may include, but are not limited to, airline tickets, hotel vouchers, tour vouchers, or any other document that confirms an arrangement with a service provider.
- These documents may also be subject to conditions such as, but not limited to, being nonrefundable, non-date-changeable, and subject to cancellation or amendment fees.

Payment & Credit Card Transactions
- If, for any reason, a travel service provider cannot deliver the services you contracted for, your remedy lies with the provider and not with The Black Onyx Group, LLC.
- If you paid The Black Onyx Group, LLC by credit card, you agree not to seek a chargeback for your payment to The Black Onyx Group, LLC.
- If your credit card or check is declined, you are responsible for promptly settling any amounts owed to The Black Onyx Group, LLC, via money order or another credit card.

Price Variations
- We reserve the right to change published fares in response to fluctuations in exchange rates or price increases by service providers.  All prices are subject to availability and may be withdrawn or altered at any time.

Taxes and Baggage Fees
- Baggage allowance and restrictions apply to all airlines. These can vary, so you should contact the airline you are traveling with for specific restrictions. Some airlines may charge fees for checked baggage.

Cancellation
- Please be aware that travel bookings are non-refundable and non-reroutable.
- Cancelled bookings will incur charges. These charges can be up to 100% of the booking cost, regardless of whether the travel has commenced.
- Where we incur any liability for a cancellation fee or charge for any booking you cancel, you agree to indemnify us for that fee or charge.

Travel Insurance
- We highly recommend you purchase travel insurance through our insurance partner, Travel Guard, to protect your travel investment.  

Health and Special Requirements
- Please advise your consultant of any special requirements you may have, such as special meals, medical requirements, and so on.

Refusal of Service
- Service providers reserve the right to refuse service to travelers for the following reasons: The traveler:
- Lacks proper documentation for the country of destination
- Has a contagious disease
- Is under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or narcotics
- Manifests disruptive and/or unruly behavior
